COACH STAN WOLOFSKY

Coach Stan Wolofsky

Having been coached to performance by the best in the sport, Stan understands the value of effective coaching. With over 15 years of dragonboat paddling as a member of the Canadian Senior Dragonboat Team, The Mojos, CSDC and The Blades across 3 IDBF World Championships in Poland, China and Berlin Stan knows what it takes to go fast. As a coach since 2003 Stan has received fabulous feedback from all of his teams proving his enthusiasm, humor and excellent knowledge of the sport. Stan’s drills and well-structured practices have consistently led his teams to exceed their own expectations. Stan uses structured workouts to focus on technique, this is all build upon a spirited team cohesion full of positive experiences.
Stan’s past/present crews include; Dragons Abreast, Elementary Teachers of Toronto, Toronto Running Club, UofT Occupational Therapy, Federation of Canadian Chinese Professionals, Motorola.

Coach Eve Loek

In addition to her regular training as a competitive rower Eve has also successfully raced outrigger and flatwater canoes at a highly competitive level. In addition to her performance outside the sport of dragonboat Eve has also won events across 4 IDBF Dragonboat World Championships including Sydney 2007, Berlin 2005, Shanghai 2003, and Poznan in 2001. Eve also has her NCCP-Level 2 certification and is also a CPTN-Certified Personal Trainer. While Eve likes to focus her attention on developing technique and fitness she takes a lighthearted approach to competition which seems to work out just fine for her teams.

Throughout her coaching career Eve has coached The CIBC Wahoos!, Dragons Abreast, Elementary Teachers of Toronto, Swansea School and many many more.

Coach Darren Mossman

Darren uses his flatwater sprint canoe racing background in conjunction with his education as a CSEP-Certified Personal Trainer and NCCP-Competitive Coach to create a fun and exciting environment for every team he gets involved with. With solid credentials and lots of experience Darren has the ability to adapt to the needs and wants of a wide range of teams from beginner to high-performance. In the last two years Darren has coached for Toronto Police Service Crime Waves, Ryujin Dragons, Sir Oliver Mowat C.I., Mixed Nuts, Darren’s coaching priorities are a focus on crew cohesion, technique and fitness.

Coach Stephen Trinh

Growing up on a river in China and fishing out of a canoe taught Stephen the importance of paddle dynamics in the water. Stephen has now been paddling dragonboat for 12 years, in 2003 Stephen moved into coaching. As a racer Stephen competed at the 2008 IDBF Dragonboat Club Crew World Championships in Penang, Malaysia, medalling in both mens and mixed races.
In the boat Stephen works on-on-one with every single athlete, correcting bad habits and increasing efficiency one stroke at a time. Balancing technique with fun while using a variety of examples Stephen explains his key points for everyone to clearly understand.

Stephen most has most recently been seen on the water with Mount Sinai Hospital Lightning, Elementary Teachers of Toronto, Rotary Club of York, York Region Catholic School Board, Red Thread Dragons, Richmond Hill High School Raiders, and Power Pride.

Coach Ian Howes

Above all else Ian is a racer. Running, swimming, biking and of course paddling are all within his purview. Coming from the Mississauga Canoe Club High-Performance group, Ian learned the value of hard work in his flatwater sprint canoe racing career winning numerous national titles.

Coaching since 2001, Ian started with the National Dragonboat Club as an assistant coach/cox for Thrusting Mojos under the guidance of Doug Tutty. With two years hard of work, The Mojos rose to an A division team in Toronto in 2003. Since then Ian has taken on a number of different teams including UofT New Dragonz, Ricoh, Smoke on the Water, as well as lots of substitute coaching, helping out our other coaches when they’re unable to make it down to the beach.

Coach Konrad Doerrbecker

Konrad has been a national team paddler for many years. Including time spent as a coach for the multi-medal winning Canadian Senior National Dragonboat Team. Over a dozen world championship medals across the premier and senior categories.
To get the absolute best out of each individual paddler in terms of fitness, technique and the best of the team.

Konrad’s top priorities as a coach are to provide a means for the team to improve on a continuing basis and to help individuals grow to their maximum potential in a challenging yet fun environment.
In the past, Konrad has been spotted coaching forToronto Masters, Dragon Blades, Astra Zeneca, QuickSilver, The Blades, Canadian Sr. DB Club

COACH SHANE BALTHAZAAR

Coach Shane Balthazaar

Shane has been involved in a variety of sports from a young age and has always maintained a position as a strong competitor. He believes that having fun is the most important aspect of any sport. How far any individual or crew wants to go and the route taken is always left up to the individual competitor. As a coach, Shane points athletes in the right direction and helps with goal setting and achievement. With years of paddling experience backed up with a B.Sc. in Kinesiology from McMaster, Shane is able to apply concepts of Biomechanics, Sport Psychology, and Exercise Physiology and bring a team to the next level.
Shane chooses to focus first on unity amongst the crew, from there he adds technique so as not to waste a drop of efficiency. As an effective coach, Shane realizes the importance of strategy and crew composition when it comes to racing. Shane never shies away from the obvious and is quick to point out the importance of overall fitness, in and out of the boat, to his crews.
For the last 7 years Shane has paddled with the Pickering Dragon Boat Club and the Toronto Masters. His coaching resume includes Harbord CI TigerSharks, UofT Rotman School of Business, St. Robert HS Rampage, Glenforest Fire, St. Michael Power, JETAA Fighting Fighting Carps, Region of Peel PIT Crew .

Coach Greg Secko

Greg has been involved in paddle-sports as a paddler, coach and booster for the last 20 years at the regional and international level. By taking a structural approach with a soft hand Greg pushes teams to produce while fostering a sense of inclusion amongst all. His focus is achievement oriented and goal based, combined with a focus on improving teamwork and overall fitness Greg get results. Handling issues one-on-one or as a crew Greg draws from his years of experience to ready a crew for any challenge they may face as a team. As an NCCP Level 2 coach Greg has qualified his commitment to helping others achieving excellence.
Some of Greg’s past teams include CIBC, Mercedes, GlaxoSmithKline, and Eli Lily.

COACH SHANE BALTHAZAAR

Coach Drew Vasilevich

Drew Vasilevich has been involved in flat water and dragon boat paddling for many years. He has been a dragon boat coach since 1991. His forte is team-building based on sound principles of good communication as well as his knowledge and experience in dragon boat training. Drew believes that the fundamentals of stroke technique and teamwork cannot be over emphasized. Teams Drew has coached: Globe and Mail Headliners, Cabbagetown All Stars, Drew’s Crew, Oakville Women Blade Runners, Tim Hortons Double-Double Dragons, Sovereign Insurance Team Sovereign, Fearless Dragons.
